TRB Service Project Announced!

Thursday - December 22, 2011

In the fall of 2005, The Rock Boat was set to make its first New Orleans departure. However, just a few weeks before we were set to leave, Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city. All Carnival ships in the port were donated to FEMA workers as housing while they helped with the rescue effort, and of course, The Rock Boat V was cancelled.

Next year, The Rock Boat is finally making its way back to the great city of New Orleans, and we invite you to be a part of a service project. Though it has been 6 years since the hurricane, there are still hundreds of families living in FEMA trailers, and more who need help rebuilding their own homes. We know The Rock Boat family is one of the most caring groups of people anywhere with a wide variety of skills and talents, and when we band together there are no limits to what we can accomplish.

The day before we set sail, Sixthman is teaming up with The St. Bernard Project to help re-build St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes, some of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina.

We have 100 volunteer spots available, and we'll divide up into groups of 25 to go help the St. Bernard Project with 4 of their current projects. Volunteering will consist of light construction work.

Here is an example of what your day will be like on February 29th:

12:00 PM-12:20PM - Orientation. Lunch will be provided.

12:20PM-12:50PM - Buses travel to work sites and drop off volunteers.

12:50PM-4:00PM - Volunteers work on one of many possible phases of rebuilding including mold remediation, installing insulation, hanging drywall, mudding, sanding, painting or flooring.

4:00PM - Bus drop off.

We're finalizing a pickup/drop off location and will let you know when the location is set. It will be in very close proximity to our two hotel options.

How to sign up:

All guests who booked The Rock Boat before December 21 received an email that day which had the sign up form. If you received this email, please use the form to sign up.

For guests who did not book before then or did not receive the email, you can email us at therockboat@sixthman.net letting us know if you'd like to participate and your donation amount. You may also sign up by giving us a call at 877-379-9173.

If you are not able to participate but would still like to make a donation, that's fine too! Just email us or call us using the same contact info above and let us know you'd like to make a donation.

*Please note: Deadline to sign up is Friday, February 10. Signups will be on a first-come, first served basis. Donation amount will be added to your cruise reservation and you will receive an email once you have been charged. You may then log into your Sixthman.net account to make your payment.

Reservations for the TRB Service Project are done on an individual basis. Signing yourself up above does NOT automatically sign up all of your cabin mates. Each passenger will need to register on their own.

It's a great way to help a community in need and kick off your vacation by donating some time to a great cause! Lets show NOLA the spirit of The Rock Boat! The cost to participate is up to you - a donation is not required but is greatly appreciated.
