Australian duo Atlas Genius are back with their first new music in two years, and they’re already looking towards life on the road.

On “63 Days” -- available via Caroline Records -- brothers Keith and Michael Jeffrey appear to be wising up from their experiences away from their current home base in Los Angeles.

"This song is me promising to not screw things up again,” lead vocalist and guitarist Keith Jeffrey says. “One of the biggest strains on a relationship is distance, and I get distracted very easily so that's a recipe for disaster.

There’s been a lot to process for the group following the smash success of “Trojans” in 2013 and “Molecules” in 2015, and it’s clear from the new music that they’ve taken some time from their breakneck output to develop their sound and grow as songwriters. The band has honed the competing elements of their aesthetic from the grungy rock tones to their hints of electronic and pop music, while adding some of their most thoughtful lyrics yet.

“63 Days” is the perfect introduction to the next phase of Atlas Genius with its crisp drums, ebbing bass, and a chorus that is equally evocative and accessible. The most striking part of the song is Jeffrey’s uncompromising honesty when facing his own flaws.

“A lot can go wrong in 63 days if you're not focusing on what matters,” Jeffrey concludes.

Luckily, the guys have enough going on to keep their minds busy. After dates at Lollapalooza and support shows for Blink-182, the band will embark on a North American tour of their own.
